Ecozine is proud to support the annual conference on diversity and inclusion

Ecozine is proud to support the Diversity & Inclusion in Asia Conference 2014, being held today and tomorrow, at the Regal Airport Hotel in Hong Kong, organized by Community Business.  The conference was kickstarted with an opening address by Fern Ngai, Chief Executive Officer of Community Business.  This was followed by a plenary on Driving Competitive Advantage, during which senior executives from some of the biggest corporations in the world shared compelling stories of how embracing diversity and inclusion has been a source of competitive advantage for their organizations.  Speakers included Shakir Moin, VP & Chief Marketing Officer, Greater China & Korea of Coca-Cola as well as Annemarie Durbin, Group Head, Independent Governance & Workplace at Standard Chartered Bank.  Durbin shared her personal story of working as the Country Director in the Philippines and the flexibility her company gave her to be with her newborn amidst frequent work travel.  The issues of presenteeism in the workplace as well as educating future generations in post-secondary institutions on inclusion in the workplace were also touched on.  Moin emphasized the importance of inclusion as a competitive advantage in marketing of brands, giving the example of using nicknames on Coca-Cola products as this appealed to the Chinese market.
Other interesting sessions at the conference include Diversity & Inclusion and Innovation, unlocking the creativity of Asians, leveraging women’s networks, disabled talent and more.  Day 2 of the conference in particular focuses on LGBT inclusion, LGBT and religion as well as generational diversity.  The conference is a zero carbon event, with carbon offsets being made to contribute to solar cookers in developing countries.
