Hong Kong ecopreneur Bobsy has been pioneering socially responsible businesses in Hong Kong since 1992, including the popular MANA! series of eateries. Here are some of his favourite things.
I’ve kept sketchbooks since 1993 to record inspiration, quotes, insights, visions... even feathers and leaves between the pages. Famous people and yogis have also signed it for me. The pens I carry are red, yellow, green and blue – the colours that children are most attracted to, and in my opinion the most powerful ones.
These are sacred feathers from the Dayak Indians in the Borneo Rainforests, with whom I’ve interacted. They’ve been losing their rainforests to agricultural development – over 50 per cent. The feathers must be earned, and I’m honoured to have two so far.
GLOBAL MIND CHANGE
I came across this book in 1990, and it transformed my worldview. It’s the most powerful book I’ve ever read. Everything in this book has come true – and it was written 28 years ago. It really changed the direction of my life.
This backpack is by Seventyeightpercent, a truly innovative and original Hong Kong company. I use it every day without exception, to carry my laptop so I’m able to work anywhere. It’s well made and sturdy, but with simple elegance. I’ve been carrying one of these bags consistently since 2010.
Za’atar is the foundation of everything we make at MANA!. Ours is grown especially for MANA! by a childhood friend of mine. It’s made of thyme, sesame seeds, sumac, and sea salt.
BELT, POUCHES AND FAN
I wear these belts everywhere I go. A good friend of mine named Zultan, who is based in Bali, makes them from second-hand leather. One of the pouches is an old ammunition pouch from World War II! This amazing fan is custom made by Zultan’s father, Lou. It’s made from silk and ebony with a silver and opal gem embellishment.
